The Pivot Fund is invigorating local news by identifying outstanding local news outlets in underserved communities and directing meaningful levels of funding and support to them. Its unique approach starts with asking communities who they trust for local news. The Pivot Fund is able to reach smaller trusted news outlets that larger funders aren’t equipped to support.

After its first few years in operation, The Pivot Fund was ready to showcase its achievements and demonstrate proof that its model works. They needed a professionally designed impact report to highlight their approach and the results they’ve been able to achieve so far.

Our Solution

We started by mapping out the sections and pages needed to create a logical and engaging messaging arc. Because this was The Pivot Fund’s first impact report, this piece needed a slightly different narrative approach than a more established impact report might. We worked closely with the client’s communications staff to plan and gather the content we needed to design each page.

We then applied the new brand system we developed for The Pivot Fund to create an energetic, forward-moving feel for the piece. Each page and spread was designed to either stand alone or work within its own section. We used design elements in new ways and thoughtfully expanded the brand application to a feature print piece while keeping the overall look and feel consistent.

We created a digital PDF version with active links throughout. We also created a print-ready version and managed the print process with a trusted professional printer to deliver the printed booklets successfully.

We hope this piece helps The Pivot Fund receive the recognition they deserve for their important work.
